An increasingly popular method of weight loss, involves the adoption of a diet of only vegetables and fruits in the form of juice. There have been a number of documentaries on its efficacy which have convinced many naysayers that it is indeed effective.
Newcomers to juicing may find themselves in a somewhat confusing position, since there are enough fat loss juice recipes out there to make their head spin. This is why I’ve created a list of my personal top ten favorite weight loss juice recipes which will be more than enough to get you started. You may be surprised by the ingredients, since some of them, you may have passed over every day without realising their weight loss potential!
1. Fat Dissolver Juice
This juice is loaded with fat burning fruits and vegetables that will get your metabolism revving!
- 1 pink grapefruit, peeled
- 2 oranges, peeled
- 1 bunch mint
- 1 head romaine lettuce
The grapefruit in this simple and effective recipe, which is covered in greater depth over at Linda Wagner’s weight loss blog, deserves talking about in a bit more detail. Besides being a good source of vitamins A and C that are important for your immune function, it has revealed its potential for curbing higher cholesterol levels, type 2 diabetes and fat in recent years. In particular, a research team at the Massachusetts General Hospital and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, have recently discovered that naringenin, an antioxidant extracted from bitter grapefruit, can possibly enhance the liver’s fat decomposition ability by improving sensitivity to insulin – something that current anti-diabetic and lipid-lowering drugs already rely on. The same derivative may also shield the liver against damage.
2. Veggie Delight
Many people prefer to avoid juicing too much fruit in the evenings as it can disturb their sleep or even work, cause them to gain weigh as the body converts the sugar in fruit into fat. This drink has lots of healthy vegetables, but the sweetness of the orange and carrots means you’ll barely taste them. Excellent for those who are not big veggie fans out there.
If you have kids that don’t like vegetables, this is a sure fire way to give them the nutrients they need.
- 2 Oranges
- contenteditable=”false”>2 Carrots

You may never have thought of it like that, but even a vegetable that is as seemingly insignificant as lettuce has a role in weight loss, as the creators of this recipe recognize thoroughly well. In fact, it should be one of the first things you think about when switching to a weight loss diet. Lettuce helps you combat obesity in a two pronged way: first, it is super low on calories, which means you can use it to make your juice more fulfilling without racking up its energy density. Moreover, it is rich in fiber, which is, on its own, an excellent way to curb the hunger pangs associated with a fat loss diet.
3. Colorful Health Festival
- 1 small to medium beetroot, discard greens or see below*
- 1 red tomato
- 4 carrots, discard greens as they are toxic
- 2 firm yellow pears
- 2 red apples
- 3 thick slices pineapple (wash before cutting)
- 4 Brussels sprouts
- 4 white or purple cauliflower florets
- 2 arugula (rocket) leaves
- 6 Broccoli florets
* Beetroot greens can be quite potent. If you do choose to use them, try to get young greens and use only 2 or 3 leaves at a time.
Wash and prepare Vegetables and Fruits:
- Trim beetroot ends, peel thinly, and cut into chunks.
- Quarter tomato.
- Trim carrot ends and discard greens.
- Quarter the pears and apples (don’t peel, but discard all seeds).
- Peel pineapple slices, discarding rind. Cut slices into strips.
- Bunch up arugula (rocket) before juicing.
Add all the vegetables and fruit to your juicer or juice extractor and juice. For the best results, add arugula, broccoli and cauliflower with carrots and apple.
Servings: 3 to 4 medium servings.
Speaking of vegetables often overlooked for their weight fighting properties, Brussels sprouts are quite a good contender. They are filled with fibers, and contain very few calories, which makes them an ideal filler in juices to curb those hunger pangs. But their usefulness goes further than this: unlike most other vegetables, they contain a lot of protein (over a quarter of their calories by composition), which means that they aren’t just empty fillers – they’re actually helping you maintain your lean muscle mass even as you follow a weight loss plan. It seems that the people who created this recipe knew that juices run the risk of lean mass decrease, which is why their recipe contains brussels sprouts.

We all know that an apple a day keeps the doctor at bay, but who would have thought that it does the same for weight gain! As per a recent study mentioned in Food Chemistry, the non-digestible compounds present in apples encourage the growth of friendly bacteria in your gut which are linked to weight loss. Consequently the good bacteria outweigh the bad ones that live on junk food according to Giuliana Noratto, a food scientist and the study’s lead author. This balance in your internal microbes lowers chronic inflammation and thus reduces the chance of obesity, besides making you feel fuller.
5. Skinny Limits Super Weight Loss Juice
- 3 oranges, peeled
- 1/2 young cabbage [yes, this is the secret ingredient!! Cabbage is AMAZING for weight
- loss, and also really cheap!]
- half a lemon’s juice
- 1 small carrot
- a thumb size piece of ginger [great for boosting metabolism – burn that extra fat!!]
- ice [optional]
- Just juice them all!
Easy as that! There’s no need for any sweetener, but if you want, you can add some Stevia extract which is non-caloric.
Tip: You can substitute oranges for apples if you want some extra sweetness and a different taste.
Cabbage is another veggie that contains lots of dietary fibers and is also low on the calories, which is reason enough to justify the author’s insightful inclusion of this hidden weight loss gem into their recipe. You’ll want to use a juicer for extracting its goodness, since a blender will leave behind a residue that may make the final result seem oddly textured. Numerically speaking, a single cup of red cabbage juice contains just 28 calories and 0.14 grams of fat, which makes it an ideal replacement for conventional fruit juices.
6. Lemon and Watermelon Juice
- 1 lemon
- 1 cup watermelon (with seeds)
- 1 teaspoon mint leaves
- Take your blender and add all the ingredients.
- Blend till you can see a red mass in the blender jar.
- Add a little crushed ice in a glass, pour the juice, and garnish it with mint leaves.
Your weight loss nutritious drink is ready. Since watermelon is so rich in water content, it makes this drink a great source of water, if you do not drink enough of it through the day.
There is more to mint than being a sweet smelling herb that aids digestion. As it turns out, eating mint is also a great way to lose weight. Mint is well known for its digestive properties, but, more specifically, it also encourages the digestive enzymes which extract nutrients from your food while burning fat as useful energy. This is the reason why it was added to this extremely simple recipe, which even a child could make on their own!
7. Cantaloupe Cinnamon Juice
Stunningly refreshing and full of flavor. Has more than 15,000 I.U. of Vitamin A and more three times the Vitamin C content of an apple. It also contains myo-inositol, a lipid which helps with anxiety, insomnia, and in battling hardening of the arteries, and has the highest amount of digestive enzymes of any juice. Melons are recommended by the American Cancer Society as powerful agents in the fight against intestinal and skin cancer. Cantaloupe contains approximately 100 calories, yet it is dense in nutrients. This makes melon a perfect fruit juice for healing and weight loss. Delicious, filling, and low in calories.
- 1 Cantaloupe
- 5 Ice Cubes
- 2 Tbs. of Sucanat
- Dash of cinnamon
- Juice the cantaloupe and blend with Sucanat, cinnamon, and ice cubes.
Cantaloupes contain a lot of water by composition, which translates in to a meager 54 calories per cup of cubed cantaloupe! This lack of calories makes it the perfect ingredient for an easy to make, pleasant weight loss juice. If your overall weight loss plan means you consume 1200 calories daily, then, according to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2010, you can also eat a cup of cubed cantaloupe for weight loss. Juicing it will be far more convenient however.

Kiwis are rich on vitamins C and K, and also on fibers. However, they contain a very little amount of calories, which makes them a great choice for health conscious individuals, focused on losing weight. Although they don’t directly burn fat, they will make it a lot easier for you to lose fat because they taste sweet without the calories. A single kiwi fruit will have just 42 calories, which means that you can easily eat it whole on a diet plan! It appears that the author of this recipe was aware of the difficulties people face in sticking to a weight loss diet, which is why they included a tasty fruit into their mix.
10. Apple Carrot Celery Juice
- 3 Carrots
- ½ Cucumber
- 1 Apple
- 2 Celery sticks
- Wash all fruits and vegetables well.
- Cut the ends off of the carrots before juicing them.
- Drink the mix immediately after you make it for the highest nutritional value.
*It’s not necessary to peel or de-seed any of the fruit or veggies; the juicer will separate it for you.
The special thing about celery is its reputation as a ‘negative-calorie’ food. What this means, for the average person looking to lose weight, is that it actually takes the body more calories to digest it than amount present in the vegetable itself! One stalk of celery contains just a single calorie, so you can use it as filler for your juice without worrying about gaining unwanted bulk.
By now, you will have surely realized that there is a lot more to losing weight than is shown on TV commercials and magazine ads. There is no such thing as a ‘miracle ingredient’ for curbing weight loss, to the contrary, all ingredients present in weight loss juices are fairly ordinary, and some, in fact, you may never have associated with losing weight in your life before!
