Juicing Wheatgrass Without a Juicer

Wheatgrass is rich in nutrients. It’s also full of antioxidants that can wage a successful war against free radicals, thus limiting damages to your cells. Antioxidants are also quite effective at reducing oxidative stress. Taking a glass of it daily reduces cholesterol and kills cancer cells.

Its consumption also boosts the regulation of blood sugar, and alleviates inflammation, among other benefits. Now that you know you can enjoy all these benefits; you should get a good juicer to use. Even without a juicer, you can still juice wheatgrass, as shown below.

Step 1

First, you have the option of buying wheatgrass. Alternatively, you should consider growing it in case you want to enjoy a glass regularly. If you decide to go with the alternative, you have two options to consider. One, you could grow it in soil. Two, you could grow it hydroponically using:

  1. Red wheat berries
  2. White wheat berries

Step 2

The second step is all about harvesting. Most crucially, you should get the timing right. Here, good timing means harvesting wheatgrass just before you start juicing it. Additionally, it’s good to know the technique for cutting the grass. You should do it:

  • just above the soil, if you grew it in soil
  • just above the wheatgrass root system, if you grew it hydroponically

Step 3

At this point, the assumption is you don’t have a juicer. Instead, you probably have a blender. In that case, take the pieces of stalks from the wheatgrass you just cut. Put it in the blender’s canister. Add some water or use more water if you need the drink milder and more palatable.

Step 4

Turn the blender on and start juicing the wheatgrass. You should not stop it for the next 60 seconds. Alternatively, feel free to stop only when complete pulverization of the wheatgrass takes place.

Step 5

At this stage, one should be ready to strain the pulp. To do this, you would have to pour the mixture of wheatgrass and water through some layers of cheesecloth. After doing that, you should feel free to either compost or discard the pulp, if it is of little use to you.

Step 6

Now, you are ready with your wheatgrass juice. More importantly, you have made it without using any kind of juicer. If everything is to your satisfaction, you should consume the juice immediately. Add it to juice blends or fruit smoothies to neutralize its strong taste.

Before you embark on step one, though, you should prepare the following items:

  1. fresh wheatgrass
  2. a pair of scissors
  3. water
  4. blender
  5. cheesecloth

Finally, always prepare the wheatgrass that you would like to juice without a juicer. Do this after checking and confirming that it is fresh. Wash and clean it thoroughly too. If you lack a blender, you could also proceed with a mortar and pestle.

A mortar and pestle offer you a manual way of juicing wheatgrass when you don’t have a juicer. You have to grind the wheatgrass completely. Here, you will also need water and a clean muslin cloth. Drink to your fill!
